about

CARRIER is based on field recordings made between 2012 and 2019 in various locations including Brussels, Belgium; Boston, Cambridge and Somerville, Massachusetts; Berlin, Muenster and Kassel, Germany; Venice, Italy; Maui and Honolulu, Hawai’i; Athens, Greece; and New York, New York. Processing , editing and mixing were done between 2018 and 2020 in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The recordings were made spontaneously and in the form of an ongoing travelogue, often while visiting exhibitions, attending performances, rehearsals and other events. No definitive list of recorded spaces or works was made at the time nor can I reconstruct one properly. Recordings were made in the spirit of exploring an acoustic space, a moment of listening, or a complex of sound, and in many cases it was an existing work of art that made the space worth listening to and worth exploring. I extend my greatest respect and thanks to all the artists whose work I encountered and whose sound left its imprint in these recordings, and also my apologies for not including a full accounting here. If you hear something you would like credited, please contact me and I will be happy to do so.

CARRIER is dedicated to that which and those who we lose hold of, most especially to my dear friend Jens Hauch, who escaped our grasp too soon, for reasons he carried with him when he slipped away. As always, I am left wishing I had kept better records. I miss you, Jens.

about

Andy Graydon Hawaii

Andy Graydon is an artist whose work explores the interstitial spaces between sound and video. His recordings and layered performances, which integrate diverse field recordings with electro-acoustic compositions, unhinge known sonic territories and open up environments that allow listeners to experience natural (or found) sound in new ways. - Lauren Cornell, "Extract: Portraits of Sound Artists" ... more
